California Limo Fire killing 5
Last Saturday night a white stretch limo caught on fire holding nine passengers, killing five. The bride-to-be, 31-year-old Neriza Fojas, was among the dead.  "Neriza was getting married, going to the Philippines to get married there and have a ceremony there and the reception," Nicolas told CNN from her home in Honolulu. Nine passengers were traveling in the Lincoln as it headed across the San Francisco Bay along the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge.  When the driver thought about the events that had happened, he stated that one woman knocked on the window separating them and said “smoke.” He thought that she was asking to smoke a cigarette. He then told her that they only had four more minutes. About 30 seconds pass and she knocks again. That time he said he knew something was wrong.
While he was driving he started to smell the smoke. He immediately pulled over and helped one or two of the women, as the limo burned. "I just wish that there could have been something done, more," Brown said. The four passengers who got out suffered smoke inhalation and burn injuries. The bodies of the women who died were found in the car, pressed against the partition between the passenger compartment and the driver's area, authorities said. Fire officials said a crew responded quickly, but it was too late to save them.

The Wizard of Oz

This past weekend the Batesville High School Drama Dept. put on the production of The Wizard of Oz. We started rehersing for the play back in January on the 8th. On the first night we did a read through of the entire play. The second night we did a sing through. That is where we sang all of the songs that we would preform. We would reherse three times a week every week and do tech on Saturdays. During rehersals we would as we call "block the scene". Which basically means we would find our place on the stage for the scene. During the tech days we would build and paint everything that we would need for the production.
Out of all the weeks of practicing, the week of the preformances was the most stressful. When it came time to get ready for the preformances we had numerous long and exausting rehersals the week of. Some nights we would be there until 8:30. Other nights we would be there until 9 o'clock. We had four school preformance, and four main preformances. I personally believe that preforming for the schools was the best part. We got to preform for the people that are closest to our age, so we knew that they would have a good time, and laugh with us. I'm so happy that I did this play, and even though we had long and exausting rehersals, I wouldn't have it any other way.

Aborting Children vs. Social Stigma

If you abort your baby to avoid the social stigma of being an unwed mother should you be forgiven? Yes, she should  be forgiven because we don't know the reasoning behind the choice she made. Luke 6:37 says "Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven." This states that you need to forgive people for what they do. That you need to forgive them to be forgiven. Colossians 3:13 says "Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you." When the young woman made that decision she had a lot on her mind. This verse states that we should bear with each other and forgive. We don't know her situation so she should at least get the chance to give her side of teh story, so we can try and forgive her.

Band over the past two weeks

Two weeks ago Batesville High School Band had a preassesment concert. We had our concert at UACCB. While at UACCB it became very dark. We were there for two and a half hours. For our concert we played three different songs. We played Toccata for Band, Foundry, and Arsenal. While playing the songs there was quite a bit of squeaking and mistakes coming from the band.
This past Friday, Batesville High School Band went to Green County Tech for our concert assesment. We had to leave our campus around 5:30 p.m to make our warm up and preformance times. We left on time but took the long way and almost missed our warm up time. When we got there we had 10 minutes to get out instruments ready and get to warm up. Around 8:30p.m we went to preform our three songs for the three judges. Everyone looked really nervous since we were the last ones and it was so late. When we finnished the concert we were able to hear the judges scores for our preformance and we got 1's all across the board. ( That's the best you can get!)

"Superbowl Halftime"

Everybody  saw  the  superbowl  halftime  show  last  Sunday,  Feb.  9th.  The  preformer  was  a  well  known  pop  singer  Beyonce.  When  hafltime  came  it  was  more  like  a  concert  with  a football  game  just  for  a  "warm-up".  The  halftime  show  was  a  little  over  the  top  for  a  football  game.  While  preforming her  and  her  dancers  wore  very  "showy"  outfit.  In wearing  those  outfits  they  were  able  to  show  quite  a  bit  off.  Her  and  her  dancers  did  not  look  approiate  at  all.
The  halftime  show  was  something  no  one  will  forget.  During  the  show  Beyonce  brought  out  her  two  past  group  singers.  They  did  a  wonderful  job  singing  together  again  after  many  years  of  being  apart.  The  outfits  they  wore  could  have  been  better.  The  group  sang  their  famous  song  "Bodylicious".  It  seemed  that  many  people  in the  crowd  responded  to  that  song.  That  song  is  what  made  them  famous.

"Newtown Shooting"

Would you consider the school shooting in Newtown to be a tragedy? During those terrible 10 minutes 26 people were shot. No one deserves to die by being shot. It not only affected the victims, but an entire nation. Adam Lanza was determined and focused on the task at hand suggesting that he may have had some form of mental illness. It seems that Mr. Lanza was trying to follow in the footsteps of previous mass shooters by killing the innocent and then taking his own life. There are many people in this world who have a mental illness but they do not shoot people. Yes, the Newtown shooting was a tragedy because it cost the lives of many innocent people, but changed the way we think about our schools forever.
Did anyone try to stop the shooter? According to eyewitnesses two brave women tried to stop him, the principal Dawn Hochsprung and the psychologist Mary Sherlach. They must have been very brave to try to save the faculty and children. It seems that in all of the other school shootings no one has been brave enough to even try to stop the shooter. Faculty says that Mr. Lanza went into a classroom were there was a sub and shot her and her class of 14 children. What a terrible thing for them to experience. That was innocent people who gave up there lives for a man who couldn't control himself. There were few people who actually tried to stop him...all failed.

Philanthropy

Would you consider Bill Gates a philanthropist? According to Peter Singer, Bill Gates gave over $30 million to charity. Thats a lot of money, but it doesn't mean that he is a philanthropist. It could just be a tax write off. Bill Gates is donating money to Unicef because according to them around 10 million children will die this year. Around 30,000 per day. The money he donates won't help every child, but it will help some. He may just be donating to get better publicity for helping needy children. I don't consider Bill Gates a philanthropist, I consider him a rich person seeking publicity.
